Commentary

Those are some of the key points from the Prime Minister. It is very important to understand the sentiments expressed. Canadians are indeed proud of the immigration system. It has given people for all walks of life, war, famine, or economy, a chance to seek a better life in the land of Canada. It has worked for decades and it is still working today. The covid pandemic was an extraordinary system and demanded extraordinary measures in an attempt to combat the fallout. It is only natural to expect that after all the dangers of the covid had passed, the ramped up immigration system changes would be revisited and adjusted for the benefit of all Canadians.

That’s what the Prime Minister is tell all of us in Canada with his announcement. Things are being reassessed given the impact on many government, social, and business services. Everything needs to grow and expand to accommodate all the new human bodies. Perhaps you can think of the Post WW2 baby boomer explosion in births when the soldiers came home. This huge number of babies resulted in an expanded need for many types of services from medical care to childcare, and eventually going all the way through to education, housing, and the workforce.

Now the immigration rules will give businesses and government departments a chance to catch their breath, plan a strategy to service the needs of the increased population, and set us all on a path to more security going forward. The new rules does not mean Canada is stopping taking in people, it just means Canada will be a bit more scrutinizing of those who do submit their paperwork with hopes of making Canada their home.
